# Connect AI agents to Dropbox Sign

The Dropbox Sign connector lets your AI agent act in each user's Dropbox Sign account. Each user connects their own Dropbox Sign API key once, and Scalekit sends it with every call, so your agent never handles credentials. It comes with 39 tools.

**Authentication:** API Key
**Categories:** Files & Documents, Productivity
**Tools:** 39: 20 read, 15 write, 4 destructive
**Users sign in with:** API key
**Built by:** Scalekit connector
**Try it:** [Playground in the Scalekit dashboard](https://app.scalekit.com/ws/signup?sk_intent=playground&provider=DROPBOXSIGN)

## Setup

1. ### Install the SDK

   **Node.js**

   ```bash
   npm install @scalekit-sdk/node dotenv
   ```

   **Python**

   ```bash
   pip install scalekit-sdk-python python-dotenv
   ```

2. ### Set your credentials

   Add your Scalekit credentials to your `.env` file. Find values in **[app.scalekit.com](https://app.scalekit.com)** > **Developers** > **API Credentials**.

   ```sh title=".env"
   SCALEKIT_ENVIRONMENT_URL=<your-environment-url>
   SCALEKIT_CLIENT_ID=<your-client-id>
   SCALEKIT_CLIENT_SECRET=<your-client-secret>
   ```

3. ### Create the Dropbox Sign connection

   In **AgentKit > Connections**, create a Dropbox Sign connection. The name you give it is the `connection_name` your code passes. See [Configure connections](/agentkit/connections/).

## Tools

Pass the exact name to `execute_tool`, with an input like each tool's example. To ask for a tool that's missing, use the [request form](https://scalekitsupport.portal.usepylon.com/forms/request-a-connector-tool).

**Node.js**

```typescript
const result = await actions.executeTool({
  toolName: 'dropboxsign_account_get',
  toolInput: {},
  connector: 'dropboxsign',
  identifier: 'user_123',
})
```

**Python**

```python
result = actions.execute_tool(
    tool_name="dropboxsign_account_get",
    tool_input={},
    connection_name="dropboxsign",
    identifier="user_123",
)
```

`result.data` is the app's response as JSON, and `result.execution_id` (`executionId` in Node.js) is the ID of the call.

### `dropboxsign_unclaimed_draft_create`

Create Unclaimed Draft · Write

Create a draft from documents given by public URL that a Dropbox Sign user claims and finishes in the web app.
Returns unclaimed_draft with claim_url (single use), signature_request_id and expires_at.
Use it when a person should place fields or review before sending. Use dropboxsign_signature_request_send to send directly.

Read only: no. Destructive: no. Idempotent (safe to retry): no.

Inputs:

- `file_urls` (`array`, required): Public URLs of the documents to include in the draft. Dropbox Sign downloads each file, so the URLs must be reachable without login. PDF, Word, images and other common formats are accepted. Example: ["https://www.example.com/contracts/nda.pdf"].
- `type` (`string`, required): send_document creates a claimable file the claimer signs or sends; request_signature creates a claimable signature request for the listed signers. With request_signature, signers is required. Example: "request_signature". One of: `send_document`, `request_signature`.
- `allow_decline` (`boolean`, optional): Set to true to let signers decline to sign. Defaults to false. Example: true.
- `attachments` (`array`, optional): Files signers must or may upload while signing. Each item needs a name and the signer_index (0-based position in signers); you can add instructions and set required to true. Example: [{"name": "Photo ID", "signer_index": 0, "instructions": "Upload a photo of your ID", "required": true}].
- `cc_email_addresses` (`array`, optional): Email addresses to copy on the request. CCs get the completed documents but do not sign. Example: ["legal@example.com"].
- `client_id` (`string`, optional): Client ID of one of your Dropbox Sign API apps. Applies that app's branding and callback URL to the request. Example: "b6b8e7deaf8f0b95c029dca049356d4a2cf9710a".
- `custom_fields` (`array`, optional): Values that pre-fill merge fields in the documents. Each item needs the name of the merge field and the value to fill in. To let a signer edit a pre-filled value, set editor to that signer's role and optionally required to true. Works with merge fields or text tags in the documents. Example: [{"name": "Cost", "value": "$20,000"}].
- `expires_at` (`integer`, optional): When the request expires, as a Unix timestamp in seconds. Unsigned signatures then move to expired and can no longer be signed. Example: 1735689600.
- `field_options` (`object`, optional): Date format for date fields, as an object with date_format set to one of "MM / DD / YYYY", "MM - DD - YYYY", "DD / MM / YYYY", "DD - MM - YYYY", "YYYY / MM / DD" or "YYYY - MM - DD". Example: {"date_format": "DD - MM - YYYY"}.
- `form_fields_per_document` (`array`, optional): Fields to place on the documents, one object per field. Each field needs document_index (0-based position in file_urls), a unique api_id, a type (text, checkbox, signature, date_signed, initials, radio, dropdown, text-merge, checkbox-merge or hyperlink), required (true or false), the signer, and its position and size in pixels (x, y, width, height). Set page to place it on a specific page. signer is the 0-based index of the signer in the signers list, as a string; use "me_now" for a field the sender fills now, and "sender" for text-merge or checkbox-merge fields. If you leave this out, Dropbox Sign adds a signature page for all signers. Text, dropdown, checkbox, radio and hyperlink fields take extra settings; see the form fields guide. Example: [{"document_index": 0, "api_id": "sig1", "name": "Signature", "type": "signature", "required": true, "signer": "0", "x": 100, "y": 600, "width": 200, "height": 30, "page": 1}].
- `hide_text_tags` (`boolean`, optional): Set to true to remove text tags from the final documents automatically. This can clip nearby content, so the vendor recommends hiding tags with white text instead. Defaults to false. Example: false.
- `message` (`string`, optional): Custom message included in the email sent to signers. Example: "Hi Jack, please review and sign by Friday.".
- `metadata` (`object`, optional): Your own key-value data to attach, returned in every API response and event for this request. Up to 10 keys; keys up to 40 characters, values up to 1000 characters. Example: {"customer_id": "1234", "deal": "Acme renewal"}.
- `show_progress_stepper` (`boolean`, optional): Set to false to hide the progress stepper when only one step remains. Defaults to true. Example: true.
- `signers` (`array`, optional): People who must sign. Required when type is request_signature; leave empty for send_document. Each signer needs a name and an email_address, and can set order (0-based position when signing in sequence). Example: [{"name": "Jack Smith", "email_address": "jack@example.com", "order": 0}].
- `signing_options` (`object`, optional): Which ways signers can create their signature. default_type is required and is one of draw, phone, type or upload; set draw, phone, type and upload to true or false to allow each method. If not set, your account's settings apply. Example: {"default_type": "draw", "draw": true, "type": true, "upload": false, "phone": false}.
- `signing_redirect_url` (`string`, optional): URL signers are sent to after they finish signing. Example: "https://www.example.com/thanks".
- `subject` (`string`, optional): Subject line of the signature request email sent to signers. Example: "Please sign the NDA".
- `test_mode` (`boolean`, optional): Set to true to make the resulting signature request a test that is not legally binding. Use it while trying out a workflow. Defaults to false. Example: true.
- `use_preexisting_fields` (`boolean`, optional): Set to true to turn fillable fields already in the PDF into signing fields. Defaults to false. Example: true.
- `use_text_tags` (`boolean`, optional): Set to true to turn text tags in the documents (for example [sig|req|signer1]) into fields. Defaults to false. Example: true.

Example input: `{"file_urls":["https://www.example.com/contracts/nda.pdf"],"type":"request_signature"}`
